my name is MARTINEZ

Living abroad has provided, and will constantly provide, me with enlightenment into society, culture, and myself. Being an elementary school teacher provides me with a story for every emotion. Being newly married will, I'm sure, provide me with interesting experiences. My name is Martinez...

two comments on a wednesday

#1 i have two homes.  honestly sometimes i get so homesick for the United States.  Watching music videos makes me think of hearing these songs on the radio and i get homesick.  internet shopping make me homesick for the stores.  pictures on facebook make me homesick for the people.  news about the weather makes me homesick for the local news.  reading the bible makes me homesick for spiritual companions.  yet i know that at the same time if i were to move to the the US i would be homesick for mexico.  long drives to work would make me homesick for walking everywhere.  watching music videos would make me homesick for catching a soundbite of those songs while on the street.  pictures on facebook would make me homesick for the people.  pictures in travel media would make me homesick for the natural beauty.  So what do i do?  be where i am until i am somewhere else, huh?

#2 I am not good at the "what i learned" thing.  how is it that when i go to school it takes so much work to think of something that i had learned.  isnt school for learning?  but, on the days i dont go to school it doesnt take so much to write what i learned that day.  we could make a lot of conclusions from that, but i think i'll leave it alone for now.

New Year Resolutions

I normally don't like making New Year resolutions mostly because I can't normally think of something that I really consider worthy of being called a New Year's Resolution.  It's supposed to be something that you do ALL YEAR LONG!!  Also, usually they were very vague or large projects that were too daunting to begin and too involved to continue much longer than a month or a few days.

A few months ago I started challenging myself to shorter term endeavors: 30 days of daily things I love about my husband, one month of vegetarianism, Picture a Day, and 100 days of learning one new thing a day.  These things taught me that if I give a definite task for a certain period of time (and allow myself a little room for failure) I actually enjoy the effort and final product of these projects.

With those things in mind, I am here to present my new year resolutions for 2012:

(1) only 30 minutes of frivolous computer internet use a day.  i.e. facebook, stumbleupon, random blog reading, youtube, etc **
(2) read the Bible all the way through
(3) start my masters

** This resolution should lead easily into many of the other things i would like to do but because i always waste time on the internet i am unable to actually do. They are not necessarily resolutions because they are so broad and I do not have a plan of action for them but they are things that I have been wanting to experiment with or do.
  • read books
  • crafts or house fixing/decorating/decor
  • keep my house clean
  • plan more and be more organized for school
  • call or write to friends far away
  • talk to or visit with friends close by
  • experiment with vegetarian, vegan, or RAW recipes
  • have fun baking and cooking
  • writing blog entries
  • one month or 100 day challenges
  • exercise and exercise classes
Now that I have my resolutions published for the world to see, it is the world's responsibility to hold me accountable, right?

What i learned today day 12

Today i learned a lot thanks to stuff mom never told you podcast. But ill just write one:
Women tend to dress nicer, smell better, have a different voice, earn more stripping tips, eat less, and have a prettier face during the days they are ovulating.
So, Im not crazy that some days i think i like my reflection better, some days i just feel like dressing up.

What i learned today: day 11 (because there are two day 6s)

The senora in the market that made our breakfast told us two things. 1) that habinero peppers dont irritate The stomach like other peppers such as jalepenos. And 2) you can make mole with platano frito, tomatos (green and red) and chocolate. And it tastes good! And its not as heavy on the digestive system.
Im not sure about the first thing but now im interested in learning different recipes for mole.

What i learned day 9

I learned simple life things today: the clubs in salina cruz dont open until 130. Always ask what time the club will open.
